If we are using the kitchen and dining hall, do we need to bring any kitchen equipment or kitchen supplies?
No. The camp has a complete professional kitchen in which one can easily prepare meals for over 200 people. It has both a walk-in freezer and walk-in refrigerator, and is completely furnished with everything needed to cook and serve large groups. Personal utensils and meal trays are also provided, as well as over-sized beverage containers. You will probably want to bring your own spices, particularly if you plan to cook more exotic dishes. You might also consider bringing your favorite knives if really sharp cutlery is your forte.
Are there nearby stores where we can purchase food if needed?
Yes! Within a 20 minute drive you will find the following stores: Walmart, BJ’s, Aldi, Wegmans, and Byrne Dairy. Sysco will also make deliveries to the camp. Oversized containers of dairy products, such as three gallon ice cream tubs, may be ordered and delivered to the local Byrne Dairy for pick up. Additional stores and specialty shops are close by in Geneva and Waterloo.
Are there catering services available in the area if we do not want to cook for ourselves?
Yes. There are caterers available in the area that can be used to serve varying-sized groups.
What are the camp bathroom facilities like?
Each set of cabin pods are equipped with one large shared bathroom facility that includes private flush toilets, showers, and sinks. There are lights, electric plugs, and heat in all bathroom facilities.
Are we required to provide medical personnel?
No, not for camp usage under 72 hours.
Is a waterfront lifeguard provided by the camp or must we provide one?
No lifeguard is provided. Certified lifeguards are not required for camp usage under 72 hours. It is presumed that parents and Church leaders will wisely supervise use of the waterfront.
What kinds of activities are available at the waterfront?
Swimming. Individual groups should discuss the possible use of their own additional waterfront equipment with Missionary Camp Directors well in advance of their scheduled visit.
Is the camp handicapped accessible?
Yes, for the most part. Buildings and other structures are fully accessible. The waterfront has a set of stairs.
How close are the Church historic sites?
The Hill Cumorah, Sacred Grove, Joseph Smith Farm, and Palmyra are all within 35 miles of the camp. The Peter Whitmer Farm in Fayette is only 10 miles away and in the same direction as the Palmyra sites.
Is it possible to hire local transportation to Church sites for a day trip?
Yes. Some stakes have successfully used the Geneva School Bus Garage for such services.
What is the role of the full-time missionary couple serving at the Seneca Lake Camp as Missionary Camp Director?
The Missionary Camp Director has the responsibility for supervising and operating the Seneca Lake Camp in a safe manner, and is responsible to ensure compliance with New York State Health and Safety requirements. This includes providing adequate supervision to ensure that campers are protected from any unreasonable risk to health or safety. They also coordinate camp scheduling and supervise maintenance.
Besides the facilities described elsewhere on this site, are their open fields and other sites for outdoor activities and sports?
Yes! Beautiful open fields and lawns abound throughout the camp. Some are very close to cabins and the central recreation-dining hall, and some are available in more remote areas.
Are their hiking trails in the wilderness forest area? May we camp in the forest?
Yes! There are wonderful trails throughout the forested areas of the camp. The camp is large enough that extended hiking requirements may be met with a little planning. Sampson State Park is just a few minutes away for additional hiking areas if desired. The wilderness camp area provides space for small-tent camping similar to a back-packing environment.
